Travel Tips with Toddlers

Traveling with toddlers is not for the faint of heart - at least not traveling with my toddler. If you’re heading to Disney World with a toddler, here are some tips that might help you make it back with all your hair still intact.

Big Strollers Aren’t Always Better - I love my jogging stroller, but I don’t love loading it in and out of cars, it takes up a lot of space, and sometimes I don’t even use it when I take it somewhere. My suggestion? Get a smaller “umbrella” stroller if your child is big enough. It’s much easier to pack, carry, and store.

Choose a Hotel Based on the Pool - When kids need naps and can’t survive the parks from open to close, you’re going to be spending a lot of time at the hotel, and at the hotel you’re going to be spending a lot of time at the pool. Sometimes the more expensive hotels don’t necessarily have the pools that will appeal your child(ren), so check out the pools (and other hotel-specific offerings) when booking your stay.

You Don’t Need to Take Everything - As a new parent, it’s tempting to take EVERYTHING. But that takes up valuable packing space. Disney has gift shops and Baby Care Centers that are stocked with just about everything you could need. So consider buying some of those things when you get there, or buy them on Amazon and have them delivered to your hotel about the time you are set to arrive.

Water Parks - Disney water parks are amazing! My wife introduced me to the water parks, and I LOVE them! We took our 2-year-old niece several years ago, and she loved it. Plus, kids under 3 get into Disney parks for free, and two days at the water parks would upgrade to an annual pass. Hopefully that comes back as Disney gets back to being fully operational.

Traveling with toddlers, though never easy, can be not as bad if you think through a couple of things and pack strategically. You can do it! And if you have tips of your own, share them with us!
