The Beauty of EPCOT
If we’re being honest (and we should always only be honest), I wasn’t a big fan of EPCOT as a kid. There were a couple of things I enjoyed, but I was all about thrills and adventure. I liked high energy. Heck, I still like high energy! I didn’t find that at EPCOT, but that’s exactly why I love it now.
A tranquil morning at EPCOT
EPCOT - Experimental Prototype City of Tomorrow - was always meant to be a classroom. Walt wanted a place where people could learn and explore. In a way, he wanted to have a place where Tomorrowland and today could come together.
Now Walt’s City didn’t really turn out to be a city, but the idea of education and information remains. You see, Walt passed away before construction could begin on EPCOT, so we only have vague ideas of where he wanted to go with it.
As an adult, there are a few things I have learned that I love - reading, history, and travel. With reading and history, I didn’t love it when I was in school. Maybe that’s due to the fact that I hate being told what to do. Now I always have a couple of books in progress, and I love learning the backstory to whatever currently has piqued my interest. Add to that the love I have for seeing other things, and EPCOT is where I need to be.
EPCOT is divided into two sections: Future World (soon to become World Discovery, World Celebration, and World Nature) and World Showcase.
Future World is where we learn about the world in general. We learn about the history of man in Spaceship Earth. That’s the big golf ball that serves as the icon of EPCOT. We learn about the power of imagination with Figment. Explore the oceans and outer space. There is no end to what you can discover in Future World.
World Showcase is my favorite area, and it’s not just for the alcoholic beverages. There are 11 countries represented, and each one has Cast Members (workers) from that country who can help you experience a little bit of culture from around the world. I love getting to see what it would be like to visit so many different places. You can visit Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Morocco, Japan, the United States of America, Italy, Germany, China, Norway, and Mexico all in one day! I love trying something to eat or drink, observing the cultural displays, and most of all talking to the Cast Members about what life is like back home.
EPCOT isn’t necessarily the place for thrilling rides and daring shows, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t fun! If taste is your sense of choice, EPCOT is the place to go! Be sure to check out the special events that happen at EPCOT too; both the Flower and Garden Festival and the Food and Wine Festival have special offerings that you can’t get other times of the year.
